Instructions
The LIKSE search engine is designed to work like a web browser, so if you are familiar with browsers like Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, you should find this program very easy to use.
There are a number of different ways to move through the documents in this database. The three most important are hypertext, the navigation buttons, and the search feature.
Using hypertext
The coloured, underlined text in the document is hypertext. Most documents in this database contain a hypertext link at the top of the page. These links will usually take you back to the originating document.
If you cannot see the hyperlink at the top of the page, try scrolling up in the document – either by using the scroll bar on the right of the screen, or by pressing the Up arrow key on your keyboard. You can also go to the beginning of a document by pressing Ctrl-Home on your keyboard.
Using the navigation buttons
The navigation buttons at the top left of the toolbar allow you to move back to pages you have viewed earlier (press the Back button), or forward again to your current page (press the Next button).
Using the search feature
The search feature provides a fast way to find specific terms. To use the search feature, click on the large Search button. Enter your search keyword(s) in the space provided. The box below, Search Type, allows you to choose whether you want to search for documents containing all your keywords, only some of your keywords, or the exact phrase you have typed. Press the Start button when you are ready to begin your search. The search engine will search all the abstracts and display a page with all matching documents. Click on the hyperlink to go to that document. To return to the search results, click on the Back button (the left arrow at the top left of the screen).
Bookmarks
Like a web browser, the LIKSE search engine allows you to "bookmark" pages that you find particularly interesting. To bookmark a page, click on the Bookmark menu option and click Set Bookmark. If you click on Bookmark again, you will see that your page has been added to the list on the Bookmark menu.
The Bookmark Manager option in the Bookmark menu allows you to delete or rearrange bookmarks.
Altering the size of the LIKSE window
If LIKSE's Window is too small for you, it can be resized. You can also position the Window anywhere on your screen, or set it to the maximum Window size.
Other information
Fonts
This database was designed to use the fonts, Arial, Times New Roman and Symbol font, which are normally included as part of the standard Microsoft Windows installation. If these fonts are not present on your system, the text and tables may not appear as originally formatted, and the Greek and mathematical symbols used may appear as other characters. The simplest solution to this problem is to reinstall the missing fonts. Consult your Windows documentation for more details.

Le texte de couleur souligné dans le document est de l’hypertexte. La plupart des documents de cette base de données contiennent un lien hypertexte dans le haut de la page. Ces liens vous reportent habituellement au document d’origine. Si vous ne voyez pas le lien hypertexte dans le haut de la page, défilez vers le haut du document, soit en utilisant la barre de défilement à droite de l’écran, soit en appuyant sur la touche de déplacement vers le haut sur le clavier. Vous pouvez également vous rendre en haut d’un document en appuyant sur les touches Ctrl-Home du clavier.
Utilisation des boutons de navigation
Les boutons de navigation dans le coin supérieur gauche de la barre d’outils vous permettent de retourner vers des pages que vous avez déjà vues (appuyez sur le bouton Précédente), ou d’avancer à nouveau à la page en cours (appuyez sur le bouton Suivante).
Utilisation de la fonction de recherche
La fonction de recherche offre une façon rapide de trouver des termes précis. Pour utiliser la fonction de recherche, cliquez sur le grand bouton Écran de recherche. Entrez les mots clés de la recherche dans l’espace prévu à cet effet. La case en dessous, Type de recherche, vous permet de choisir si vous voulez rechercher des documents contenant vos mots clés ou la phrase exacte que vous avez entrée. Appuyez sur le bouton Démarrer lorsque vous êtes prêt à commencer la recherche. Le moteur de recherche vérifiera tous les résumés et affichera une page indiquant tous les documents appariés. Cliquez sur le lien hypertexte pour vous rendre vers ce document. Pour retourner aux résultats de la recherche, cliquez sur le bouton Précédente (la flèche gauche dans le coin supérieur gauche de l’écran).
Signets
Tout comme un navigateur Web, le moteur de recherche LIKSE vous permet de marquer d’un signet les pages que vous trouvez particulièrement intéressantes. Pour ce faire, il suffit de cliquer sur l’option de menu Signet et sur Fixer signet. Si vous cliquez de nouveau sur Signet, vous constaterez que la page que vous avez marquée a été ajoutée à la liste du menu Signet. L’option Gestionnaire de signets dans le menu Signet vous permet de supprimer ou de réorganiser les signets.
Modifier la taille de la fenêtre LIKSE
Vous pouvez modifier la taille de la fenêtre LIKSE si vous la trouvez trop petite. Vous pouvez également placer la fenêtre n’importe où sur l’écran ou la régler à la taille maximale.
Renseignements additionnels
Polices : Cette base de données a été conçue pour utiliser les polices Arial et Symbol, des polices qui sont habituellement incluses avec l’installation normale de Windows de Microsoft. Si ces polices ne sont pas présentes sur votre système, le texte et les tableaux n’apparaîtront peut-être pas tels qu’ils avaient été disposés à l’origine et les symboles grecs et mathématiques utilisés pourraient apparaître comme d’autres caractères. La solution la plus simple dans ce cas est de réinstaller les polices manquantes. Consultez votre documentation Windows pour obtenir plus de détails.
