157 REQUESTTM IS A POWERFUL INSTRUMENT TO DIFFERENTIATE TREATMENT RESPONSE 1ABR Thomson, 2S Peter PURPOSE: ReQuestTM is a validated questionnaire to evaluate GERD symptoms and related impacts on quality of life. To determine whether this questionnaire is suitable to detect differences in the response to treatment with different proton pump inhibitors the ReQuestTM database was reviewed.

METHODS: The ReQuestTM database contains data from 14 clinical trials with symptom assessment based on the reflux questionnaire ReQuestTM. The following inclusion criteria applied to patients in all trials: at least 18 years of age and diagnosis of GERD, erosive GERD confirmed by endoscopy with or without symptoms or enGERD (endoscopy negative GERD) confirmed by endoscopy and symptom-based diagnosis (history of frequent GERD-related symptoms during the last 3 months and acid complaints for at least 3 days during the last week prior to study start). The database was used to compare the mean acid dimension score and the ReQuestTM-GI sum score at baseline and day 28 for patients treated with pantoprazole 40mg and esomeprazole 40mg.
The Wilcoxon rank sum test was used throughout this procedure.
RESULTS: Within the tested population (N=3967) the mean scores for the acid dimension and the ReQuestTM-GI for patients treated with pantoprazole 40mg and esomeprazole 40mg were lower on day 28 than on baseline. In the acid dimension scores the mean pre-post differences were -2.32 (±2.01) for pantoprazole 40mg and -2.12 (±2.12) for esomeprazole 40mg (ie, 9%). The differences between the scores of ReQuestTM-GI were -5.33 (±5.38) for pantoprazole 40mg and -4.44 (±4.97) for esomeprazole 40mg (ie, 17%). For both scores the mean pre-post difference for patients treated with pantoprazole 40mg significantly exceeded the values for esomeprazole 40mg (p<0.0001).
CONCLUSIONS: The ReQuestTM-GI sum score is a powerful and sensitive instrument to evaluate differences in treatment responses. Treatment of GERD with pantoprazole 40mg resulted in a significantly higher response than with esomeprazole 40mg.
