Comment on “Abnormal course of left ovarian artery”

To the Editor, International Journal of Anatomical Variations:

We have taken interest in the recently published article by Nayak about ovarian artery in your journal [1], and we found the article very informative. We think that such reports could be kept in mind during clinical procedures.

In that article, it is emphasized that such kind of variations of ovarian artery are rare than testicular artery variations [1]. Related to this subject, a case report of Acar et al. [2] was referred as a variation in the course of testicular artery, but no other case reports about ovarian artery was included in discussion.

In a case report of ours published in 2005 [3], we presented a left ovarian artery variation with a similar course to Nayak’s current report [1]. In our case, after its origin, left ovarian artery coursed between the left renal artery and vein; then made an arch, and different from Nayak’s case it run downward between the anterior-inferior and posterior segmental renal veins. To our opinion, considering similar cases might strengthen the informative value of such reports.
