Drug discovery is the mechanism by which possible new pharmaceutical drugs are discovered. This covers a broad variety of scientific topics including biology ,Chemistry, and pharmacology. Drug discovery in medicine, biotechnology, and pharmacology is the method of discovering and/or developing medicines. Many medicines have been identified in the past either by discovering the active ingredient from conventional treatments or by serendipitous discovery. A new approach has been to understand how molecular and physiological disease and infection are controlled, and to target specific entities based on this knowledge.
The drug discovery process involves candidate identification, synthesis, characterization, screening, and therapeutic efficacy assays.
