Data-distribution challenges for edge computing & IOT

Author(s): Anderson Carvalho

A range of cheap devices arises with the popularization of IoT (Internet of Things), and solutions based into image analysis are one of the most popular among these devices. This presentation exposes an extensive architecture investigation covering a practical approach to distribute and sync data between Cloud and multiple distributed agents, especially in remote locations and offline situations. Correct and fast data distribution are key factors to reach an optimal edge solution to support existing, and future, image processing solutions. This presentation shows a deep definition of Cloud and Edge Computing, edge devices and some applications. Following will present a deep travel into techniques for high volume data transport, exploring many important aspects of its architecture. After providing such a deep theoretical vision of important items the present presentation will go practical and present a range of experiments transporting data between edge and cloud, this “bridge” aims to be the single communication channel between both environments allowing not only the constant and resilient exchange of information but allowing the Edge to run offline when necessary.
