Abstract :

Patients that have periodontal disease have a high risk of developing peri-implants, but there is no study to prove why there is a high chance of that happening. It may be because of the bacteria (gram-negative anaerobic bacteria) that causes periodontal disease still in the membrane or it may be because patients are prone to having the disease. For non-surgical treatment, the instruments that should be used to clean the sub and supragingival peri-implant area is ultrasonic systems. Almeida et al. (2012) suggest that this is because it seems to be a better choice to remove calculus and plaque. Even though studies have shown that the Plastic curette does not change the implant surface, there is no evidence to show what happens if the Plastic tip fractures while carrying out nonsurgical subgingival debridement which will lead to further disruption. Furthermore, Titanium curette should be used around Dental implants because it does not leave any traces around the implants and would be the best instrument option for non-surgical debridement.
