This year, the Journal of Surgical Case Report (SCR) commemorates its decade long publication service in the field of case study. With a successful International publications record, the journal has already begun compilation of the second issue in the 4th volume. In addition to the regular issues the journal has been publishing special issues, supplements and conference proceedings from time to time. In general, the journal covers all topics such as gastroenterological surgery, cardiovascular surgery, thoracic surgery, breast and endocrine surgery, paediatric surgery, transplant surgery, and emergency surgery. With good citation record, the journal is included in indexing databases conferring wide geographical outreach, such as Index Copernicus, Open J Gate, CAS Source Index along with simultaneous port-production digital media promotion policy. Ever since its inception in the year 2017 the journal has been consistently producing quality articles sourced from all across the world. The journal holds impeccable record of regular bimonthly issue release frequency with publication time lines.
This year, the rejection rate has been not so high, around 30% with greater emphasis on expert peer-review. The focus of the publications in the current year has been on non- traumatic intradiploic arachnoid cyst as well as on giant median nerve schwannoma reported from different parts of the world such as Japan and Karnataka and these are original research articles. Fujiwara et al. [1] have conducted non- traumatic intradiploic arachnoid cyst with growing swelling on the frontal lobe. As per the study a 64-year old woman diagnosed with non-traumatic intradiploic arachnoid cyst. The intradiploic arachnoid cysts are rare entities which usually occur in occipital region. The patient complained about the swelling which is increasing on the forehead three years ago. They have noticed a small dural defect and arachnoid tissue in the cyst wall. Extradural intracranial arachnoid cyst without trauma is very rare. The intradiploic arachnoid cysts are thought to occur due to small defects in the dural membrane. Therefore, it seems that the region of the intradiploic arachnoid cysts depend on that of the dural membrane defects.
Deepak et al. [2] have performed a case study in a rural tertiary care centre with patients having giant median nerve schwannoma. For this study a 45-year old woman having a giant schwannoma of around 3 months duration, originating from the median nerve in the distal aspect and cubital region of left arm. The history was the patient having a tingling sensation in the forearm and hand. It was 9 cm in length and 7 cm in width. No neurological deficits were noted on examination. Surgical removal was performed under 4.0x Loupe magnification by separating the nerve fascicles from the tumor. Histological examination revealed cellular schwannoma. Post-enucleation patient improved symptomatically with no neurological deficits or paraesthesia. Although similar cases have been reported in the past, such a case is a first-time occurrence in a rural set-up as ours.
The research work published in the current year find immense relevance in elucidating the role of non-traumatic intradiploic arachnoid cyst and on giant median nerve schwannoma as prognostic indicator in osteosarcomas, finding a potential target for novel anti-angiogenic therapies, developing preventive and therapeutic approaches for equine health; improve their welfare and health status as well as in designing of safe cart and harness.
The collective efforts and contributions of the authors, the associated reviewers, editorial board members and the journal management in publication of these quality articles are highly appreciated and commendable. Recently the journal has transited to a new domain under the brand new banner of Pulsus Publishers which has given great attention to surgical case study by formulating a special issue: “Surgical was considerations for tracheostomy during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus)”. As evident, the immediate focus of the journal will be on articles pertaining to endocrine surgery, paediatric surgery, transplant surgery etc. that are affected by the current pandemic situation.
