Importance of diagnosis in the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency

Author(s): C L Maduro-Maytin

The purpose of this article is to remember the teachings of our Professor Andrew N. Nicolaides and Dr. Volhard quote: "The gods put diagnosis before treatment." We find ourselves in a new century in which doctors are concerned about new treatment technologies and what Professor Nicolaides described to us last century remains not put into practice. Most doctors consider the diagnosis of venous diseases to be relatively simple and investigation rarely goes beyond clinical history and Doppler ultrasound. The hemodynamics of the venous return of blood from the extremities to the heart is not simple but complex and it is not enough to have pipes with healthy walls, adequate tone and healthy valves, but also a pump with the correct torque. To analyze the complex, we must analyze all its parts to achieve the analysis of the whole, expressed through numbers and thus, achieve the benefit of the diagnosis for the appropriate therapy and its follow-up. Using the instruments we have and highly trained personnel, we will be able to obtain the correct diagnosis for the appropriate treatment of our patients. In this article we want to describe in a simple way how we were able to obtain treatment with excellent results for our patients through surgery, medicine and vascular rehabilitation
