Anatomical Variations in the Sural Nerve and Its Impact on Sensory Innervation of the Foot's Dorsum
    Author(s): Kamal K. Ranjan*

The sural nerve, a sensory nerve responsible for transmitting information from the lower leg and lateral aspect of the foot to the central nervous system, is typically formed by the union of the medial sural cutaneous nerve (MSCN) and the lateral sural cutaneous nerve (LSCN). However, variations in the formation and distribution of the sural nerve are not uncommon. This abstract explores the diverse anatomical variations in sural nerve formation, including the absence of contributing nerves and the presence of accessory nerves. These variations impact the distribution of the sural nerve at the dorsum of the foot, influencing sensory innervation. Understanding these variations is crucial for healthcare professionals, as it has implications for clinical examinations, anaesthesiology, and surgical procedures. Recognizing the nuanced distribution patterns of the sural nerve at the dorsum .. Read More»
