    Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a virus-based illness brought on by SARS-CoV-2, a member of the Coronaviridae family that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the recently discovered, swiftly spreading epidemic to be a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
