What Factors Determine the Residents' Behavioral Intention to Use Health Education Interactive E-Books? An Application of the UTAUT2

In recent years, the application in mobile device learning has increased. E-books that combine audio, video and information have effectively improved learners’ attention, interests and creativities. Current research focuses on using mobile devices to improve student learning. Some has investigated the effect in clinical care, but few has applied mobile device in community health education. This study empirically tested a model to predict the factors affecting residents'’ behavioral intentions to use a health education interactive e-books. It explored the behavioral intention to use a health education interactive e-books from the perspective of user by applying the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology 2 model. A cross-sectional study was conducted by employing a research model based on multiple technology acceptance theories. For this purpose, variance-based structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyze data collected from a sample of 205 residents' in Kinmen, Taiwan. Partial least squares regression was used for model and hypothesis testing. The results revealed that (1) facilitating conditions and hedonic motivation were key predictors of the behavioral intentions of residents to use a health education interactive e-books; (2) performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and habit were non-significant effect on behavioral intentions of residents to use a health education interactive e-books. This study finding serve as a reference for the promotion of health education interactive e-books in community. Our empirical study was conducted in Kinmen, Taiwan, thus expanding the limited geographical scope of the literature on this topic.
