Cytokine Biology

Cytokines are a large group of proteins, peptides, or glycoproteins which are secreted by different cells of the immune system. Cytokines are a group of signaling molecules, which mediate and control immunity, inflammation, and hematopoiesis. Cytokines released from one cell influence the behavior of other cells by binding to the receptors in their surface. Through this process the cytokines help control the immune response. These are produced by a broad range of cells, including immune cells such as macrophages, B lymphocytes, T lymphocytes and mast cells, as well as endothelial cells , fibroblasts, and various stromal cells; more than one cell type may produce a specific cytokine. Cytokine Biology Journal tends to focus on aspects such as interleukins, chemokines, monokines, interferons, and lymphokines. Cytokine-based immune response findings, innate and cell-based immune response balance, cytokine receptor binding studies, techniques used to assess cytokine activity.
