Ankle-Brachial Index Peer-review Journals

Ankle brachial imdex examination is used to assess Peripheral Arterial Disease severity. Periperheral artierial illness is a condition that blocks the arteires in the leg or arms. Predisposition therefore to heart disease. The Ankle-branchial index test compares your measured blood pressure at your arm. Ankle blood index and heat attack risk is inversely proportional i.e. the less the blockage of ABI in the blood vessels is greater and thus the risk of heart attack and stroke increases. A simple , non-invasive way to check for peripheral artery disease ( PAD) is the ankle-brachial index test. The disease occurs when narrowed arteries decrease blood flow to your extremities. When walking, PAD can cause leg pain, and increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. The ankle-brachial index check compares the measured blood pressure at your ankle with the measured blood pressure at your shoulder. A low ankle-brachial index number may indicate blockage or narrowing of the arteries in your legs. Before and immediately after walking on a treadmill you might have ankle-brachial index test. An ankle-brachial exercise index test can assess the severity of the narrowed arteries during a walk.
