Application Of Proteomics In Drug Designing

Proteomics technologies have added useful dimensions for drug discovery. Proteomics technologies are useful in two important therapeutic areas: cancer and central system nervous. By helping to elucidate the pathomechanism of diseases, proteomics will help the invention of the rational medications which can squeeze with the future concept of personalized medicines. Proteomics technologies aren't used alone but rather they're integrated with genomic and chemical approaches. Finally, bioinformatics plays an important role in drug discovery. Target identification and validation involve identifying proteins whose expression levels or activities change in disease states. These proteins may serve as potential therapeutic targets or may be used to classify patients for clinical trials.  Efficacy biomarkers are used to assess whether target modulation has occurred. They are used for the characterization of disease models and to assess the effects and mechanism of action of lead candidates in animal models. Toxicity (safety) biomarkers are wont to screen compounds in pre-clinical studies for organ toxicities also as afterward in development during clinical trials. Complementary approaches like metabolomics and genomics are often utilized in conjunction with proteomics throughout the drug development process to make more of a unified, systems biology approach.
